    • Today a new foster animal arrived at the Storchenhof: an adult White-tailed Eagle! For a few days it was already watched sitting on a tree trunk near Schmuggerow and today it was caught and brought to the Storchenhof. It doesn’t look starved, Jens rather thinks about poisoned …. If it survives the night it will be brought to a special clinic in Berlin tomorrow.

    • One week of unsuccessful tries to catch this poor swan finally Jens and his helpers were lucky today and caught the animal. One of its wings is broken since long, what makes it impossible for him to fly. Its partner always flies to safer open waters, but is coming back in time for mating season…. but now for the time being the Swan will stay at the Storchenhof. The ice is already removed and now he can recover before Jens brings him out again. This Swan is not unknown at the Storchenhof, already in 2009 and 2010 it had been there with the same problem ....

This Tawny Owl from Viereck had no luck whatsoever. Jens thinks the bird was on hunt when he came into high grass and so “chaned” itself with the grass. No food no movement it was found helplessly lying on the floor. Jens brought it to the Storchenhof, but unfortunately could not help him anymore. The bird died this afternoon.

    • In the area where the Storchenhof is many storklets are thrown out of the nests because there is, due to the agriculture and the drought, just not enough food for the storklets …

These two were lucky. They are from Bismarck and there are bushes under the nest and so they had a ‘soft landing’ and survived. Now they are at the Storchenhof and everything will be done for their survival:

    • It is so important to tell also the good things happening. Here is a story like that from the Storchenhof in Papendorf

Please remember this posting from April 27 2011:

On April 20 Jens picked up this injured stork from Schmuggerow. Fighting for nest ended for him at the Storchenhof after treatment by the Vet.

Now Jens got a rediscover report about this very stork. It is a breeding stork and raised two chicks this year:

Proof again, that this ‚interference in nature‘, as some of the „Stork-experts” call it, is absolutely worth the effort, also when its combined with lots of time and work. All I can say is thank you to our Jens, who never is shy to show mercy and helps whenever a Stork is in need. Thank you very much!!!

    • Today big rescue operation at Krugsdorf. One breeding Stork died after collision with a power supply line.

Jens checking the dead breeding stork for rings. No ring.

After the other breeding stork also was not seen anymore by residents for a few days Jens had to start the rescue operation with the help of the fire brigade of Pasewalk

The youngsters are very much emaciated and dehydrated, but coming to the care at the Storchenhof they got a good chance to survive.

After arrival at the Storchenhof they got a cordial welcome by the always very curious Bambi

and they immediately started to eat

Today again new foster animals were brought to the Storchenhof. This young female Marsh Harrier from Bergholz, is not able to fly. Nobody knows why, because the feathers are all ok, no injury is to be seen. So what keeps her on the ground? Ist she onlky weak? At least the first 7 day-old chicks tasted!!!

And this young Grey Heron from Ueckermünde, also needs some caring. Where better could he find that but at the Storchenhof!?

Here the action on the Storchenhof seen from below:

      And here from above:

Jens installed a few more stork nests, that all the youngsters can make themselves comfortable. What a service!

    • Yesterday a couple of foster animals had to be taken to the Storchenhof

This Swift was found lying on a street in Prenzlau

This adult Stork was found at a Highway near Anklam. One wing is heavily injured. If he had a collision with a car we don’t know. But most likely the wing has to be amputated. Jens will drive to the veterinarian this afternoon.

This young Stork from Warnitz is tthe brother from the youngster Jens brought recently to the Storchenhof after a crash landing. Also he got an injured wing and has to go along to the veterinarian. People said, that yesterday morning blood was coming out of his beak …

Another injured Stork at rest house Klockow at the Highway A 20, Jens was not yet able to catch, because the Stork is able to fly a little bit …
