    • Rescue of a swan at the golf links at Lebring

An animal lover saw how this swan collided in flight with a power line and dashed head first into a pond.

Next day the rescue operation, supported by the fire engine brigade Lebring, started.

First it was tried with a rowboat to drive the swan into a corner, which didn’t work. Although the bird only could row with one leg it was quicker than the people.

For the 2nd try a rubber raft with motor was used. Helmut Rosenthaler and one of the firemen were equipped with nets, in which the animals could be caught.

The participants at this successful rescue operation were HBI Helmut Stegbauer, fire chief Christian Spath and Daniel Wallner, as well as Franz Habith, executive of Gut Murstätten.

Mag. Brandl from the Vet station in Kaindorf diagnosed bad injuries of the knees with broken bands.

The swan is now recovering at the stork station and will be operated beginning of next week by Mag. Brandl.

A big thank you to the animal friend for reporting and to the fire brigade of Lebring for the great help!

    • January 26 2011 – Injured Swan at the Schwarzlpond

At the Schwarzlpond there are numerous swans for the time being, which are also fed by animal friends

Mrs Monika Peil recognized one swan with an inujred wing and asked Helmut Rosenthaler for help

With united forces the beautiful swan was caught to bring him for check-up

There was an elder injury and obviously one oft he wing bones broken that the swan wasn’t able any more to hold the wing against his body

Help was given at the animal hospital of the Arche Noah, where vet Dr. Carda gave him a check up and also surgery.

During surgery the wing was corrected that it won’t be a handicap for the swan,- also he most likely won’t be able to fly any more.

After the surgery Helmut Rosenthaler picked him up and brought him tot he storchenhof where he can now recover from anesthesia

Also he most likely won’t be able to fly anymore he will be brought back and set free at the Schwarzlpond, because his partner is there.

Animal friend Monika Peil for sure will have an eye on that swan and also feed him.
We would like to say thank you to Mrs. Peil and also Dr. Carda for their help.

    • All young Storks left[[/b]

Beginning of last week all 4 youngsters were still to be seen in the nest.

On August 10 about 12 Storks were circling above Tillmitsch and in the same evening none of the youngsters came back to the Storchenstation. They left with the migrating Storks.
Gustl and Stritzi could finally have a comfortable rest in their nest and could recover from the last stressful weeks:

Also this year all young Storks, which hatched at the Storchenstation went for migration to the South, only the injured and the Storks unable to fly stayed at the Storchenstation.
